Slow and sustainable tourism

Slow tourism invites travelers to tourism at a reduced pace; one that is sustainable and responsible, and to discover new destinations from the traveler experience. It valorizes the local villages, the local history, culture, and typical products. 

The tourist-cultural project envisages a path along the ancient road consisting of the Via "ab Regio ad Capuam", better known as the Via Popilia, with particular reference to the areas of the Pollino, Savuto, Costa degli Dei and Costa Viola. The villages that will be crossed are the following:

LainoBorgo, Laino Castello, Mormanno, Campotenese, Morano, Castrovillari, Tarsia, MontaltoUffugo, Rende, Cosenza (historical center), Mangone, S. Stefano di Rogliano, Rogliano, Marzi, Carpanzano, Scigliano,Pizzo, S.Onofrio, (where the original Roman memorial stone indicating the distance between Capua and Sant'Onofrio was found and now kept in the museum of Vibo Valentia)Palmi, Seminara, Bagnara, Scilla .

Traveler’s will be travelling on foot, from village to village, with the exception of shuttle transfers to go from one area to another (from Pollino to Savuto and then from Savuto to the Costa degli Dei and the Costa Viola). The demand for slow and sustainable tourism is growing significantly and Calabria is becoming a destination for Walkers who choose this form of experiential tourism able to make the area crossed known and appreciate the many available heritages.

Program:

1st day
Transfer from Lamezia Terme airport to the hotel where check-in will take place.
18:00 welcome cocktail during which the Volare Group operators will communicate the tour in detail; 20:00 dinner based on typical Mediterranean dishes.

2nd day
Laino Borgo - Mormanno16 Km. Transfer by shuttle to Campotenese. Packed lunch - Dinner and overnight at the hotel.

3rd day

Campotenese - Morano Calabro – Castrovillari 21 Km.Transfer by shuttle to Tarsia. Packed lunch - Dinner and overnight at the hotel.

4th day
Tarsia - Ferramonti di Tarsia 3 Km. Transfer by shuttle to Montalto Uffugo.MontaltoUffugo – Cosenza 16 Km. Packed lunch - Dinner and overnight at the hotel.

5th day
Transfer by shuttle to Mangone.Mangone - S. Stefano di Rogliano - Rogliano k6 Km. The Cannavino waterfalls10 Km. Packed lunch - Dinner and overnight at the hotel.

6th day
Transfer by shuttle to Carpanzano.Carpanzano - Scigliano–The Roman bridge over the Savuto 13 Km. Packed lunch - Dinner and overnight at the hotel.

7th day
Transfer by shuttle to Pizzo. Pizzo - Maierato - Sant’Onofio 16 Km. Packed lunch - Visit to the museum of Vibo Valentia where an original Roman memorial stone indicating the distance between Capua and Sant'Onofrio is kept. Dinner and overnight at the hotel.

8th day
Transfer by shuttle to Palmi. Palmi - Seminara - Bagnara Calabra (Tracciolino path) 16 Km. Packed lunch - Dinner and overnight at the hotel.

9th dayBagnara Calabra - Scilla 12 km. Packed lunch - Dinner and overnight at the hotel

10th day
Transfer by shuttle to Reggio Calabria - Archaeological Museum (Riace Bronzes). Packed lunch - Transfer to Airport / Station / Train / Bus
